It's So Unfair: Self-Publishing

Why is there such a stigma attached to this? Yes, some people may have to do it because their books aren't up to snuff, but that's not always the case. Some people, like me, have very little patience and don't want to wait to have a published copy of their book.

Now that that's out of the way, I've decided to self-publish my book, Nothing Else Mattered. I signed up with Lulu.com and I've ordered a copy for approval. Well, here goes nothing.

It's So Unfair: Publishing

I hate the publishing world so much! I wrote a great, page-turning book. I found an editor who absolutely loved it and is willing to write a review. Now I have to go through the process of sending out queries and waiting for the rejection letters from people who are too busy to take anything else on from a new writer, whether it's good or not. I want to self-publish, but every time I find a site that sounds great, I look it up on the writing forums only to find they charge too much or they don't help you or bookstores won't take their books because they can't sell the unsold copies back or WHATEVER!

I have read so many forums that said so many different things that I want to just curl up in a ball and cover my head. What a pain in the butt! I'm not expecting to sell thousands of copies, I would have been happy with a 500, 400, even 300. But it's too much just trying to find a reputable publisher, agent, distributor, ANYTHING.

I'm guessing the best route is to find a small publisher who will just publish the minimum number of "author copies" and give those out to my family and friends. At least SOMEONE will have an actual copy of the book.
